Lafayette started as a coal-mining town in 1888 and still has a walkable Old Town along Public Road. Waneka Lake Park is the spot everyone knows, and the Coal Creek Trail runs right through town. Housing is a mix of older homes near Old Town and newer subdivisions out toward Indian Peaks and Silver Creek.
